Opioid Overdose Prevention Program (OOPP)
Our state-licensed OOPP trains nonmedical individuals to recognize and respond to opioid-involved overdoses. We aim to increase public access to life-saving naloxone through overdose education and free distribution.

Naloxone is provided by support from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH).

We collaborate with organizations, institutions, and community members by:

  • Training individuals and teams on how to recognize an overdose and administer naloxone safely

  • Providing free naloxone kits to our community and research partners, and to everyone we train

  • Assisting with community outreach events, health fairs, and awareness campaigns

  • Incorporating naloxone education and distribution into research projects and academic settings

  • Offering training for schools, workplaces, and community groups

  • Sharing harm reduction resources including fentanyl and xylazine test strips and safer sex supplies, and educational materials

Since our launch in August 2022…

  • We have distributed 3,900 naloxone kits to our community and 700 test strips

  • We have 33 overdose response trainers

  • We have 8 community and research partners

Anyone can be trained to save a life. Learn how to recognize and respond to an overdose to benefit the health and safety of your community.
